The green oasis of Vredendal, situated about 300 km from Cape Town, lies in a fertile valley in the heart of the Olifants River irrigation scheme. Although the mists of time obscure the origins of the name Vredendal, it translates to mean ‘ Vale of Peace’, and if that is what you ar looking for, you will find it here amidst the lush green vineyards, on the craggy coastline with it’s virtually unspoilt beaches, in the undulating hills or semi-arid plains to the north of the town or in the nearby mountains that abound with San rock paintings, strange rock formations and endemic flora and fauna.
