Tucked alongside the banks of the Lions River, the cottages lie amongst flowing, rolling hills that offer lovers, weary travelers or holiday individuals a serene stay in one of the most picturesque areas of the Midlands.

A fragrance of green woody notes,
The soft drumbeats of birds on the wing,
A chorus of roving, rolling hills,
An orchestra of silence, serenity and solitude…

The three essential compositions for restoring the soul.

If your heart yearns for a tranquil blend of seclusion and luxury then Lions River Country Cottages are your perfect escape into the solitude of the countryside.

Tucked alongside the banks of the Lions River, the cottages lie amongst flowing, rolling hills that offer lovers, weary travelers or holiday individuals a serene stay in one of the most picturesque areas of the Midlands.

Here you will be surrounded by 22 hectares of beautiful countryside and pampered by the warm hospitality of Tony and Ann Cowden.

Let us tempt you with a choice of luxurious accommodation derived from the names of the flowers to which we have attached each of our cottages.

Wake up to savour the silence.

All the cottages are serviced, self-catering units with all bedding, linen, bath towels, kitchen utensils, crockery, cutlery and glasses supplied. The cottages each have a spacious and comfortable lounge area with an open Jetmaster fireplace, a dining table, a fully equipped open plan kitchen with an electric stove, microwave oven, a fridge (with a separate freezer compartment) and a dish-washer.

Each cottage is equipped with a Sony stereo TV, DVD player, connected to a dish and decoder. SABC 1, 2 and 3 as well as “e” TV are available, but should you wish to view DSTV, it is recommended that you bring your Sim card. DSTV is available in the Guest Suite free of charge.

The cottages have large comfortable bedrooms, with queen-size beds and the larger cottages also have two single beds in the spare bedroom. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, complete with bath and shower, and for your comfort during those crisp winter mornings, under-floor heating.

The large patios, each equipped with a Weber braai, make them the perfect setting for an outdoors meal and sundowners, combined with a panoramic view of the Midlands.

Notes

We regret, no pets are allowed and we have a “No Smoking” policy within our cottages.

Breakfast

We offer an optional breakfast, which needs to be booked before your arrival.

Provisions

As a service to our guests, we would be pleased to “buy in” your grocery requirements for you, provided that they are emailed to us in good time. In addition, we would be pleased to provide you with basic provisions, such as tea, coffee or sugar, should you require any.

Rose Cottage

Wrapped in greater comfort and space and built on a higher slope, Rose Cottage has all the luxury you need for a large family, or a group of excellent friends who wish to share two main bedrooms as well as 3rd bed room with two single beds.

Lavender Cottage

Imagine sitting on a verandah fringed by the cool, blue mauve colour of lavender and surrounded by a horizon of sweetly swelling hills that form the outer boundaries of the Midlands. This cozy cottage is perfect for two lovers or a couple with one child and offers one main bedroom and an extra bed tucked into the lounge.

Protea Cottage

Protea Cottage boasts one of the best views on the property, offering a sweeping vista of the far flung hills and valleys of the Midlands. Here you can enjoy a luxury bedroom, a 2nd bedroom with two single beds as well as a bunk bed in the passage nook which provide an entire family or group of friends with plenty of space and time to unwind. And should the mood capture you, a short, leisurely walk will take you down to the banks of the lazy Lions River.

Guest Suite

For that perfect cozy getaway, the Guest Suite offers a large lounge as well as a small dining area and kitchenette. This quaint suite has a separate entrance which opens out into a lush and leafy garden off its own private verandah, and is ideal for two.

ATTRACTIONS - THINGS TO DO

“Our” river provides us with excellent private fishing spots, swimming in our river pool, or simply enjoying an idyllic braai, or a stroll, along the river banks.

Other activities available to our guests are, tubing on the river, mountain biking and croquet, and, as the area is in the centre of the Midlands Meander, all the extra activities you may want to indulge in, such as shopping for ceramics, clothes and jewellery, golf, horse riding, Midmar Dam water-sports, or even hot air balloon rides, are all within easy reach of our location.
