Part of the holistic relevance of everything at Fordoun has led to the development of the Fordoun signature range of products, created in conjunction with Dr Elliot Ndlovu, herbalist and ethnobotanist, who is a Sangoma and Inyanga, and a director of Fordoun Spa.
Under his guidance, a number of products have been carefully created from indigenous traditional healing plants, especially for Fordoun. The range includes soaps, gels, protective clays, oils, bath salts, lotions and creams, and sprays, based on the theme of the seven Chakras and the seven colours of the rainbow. A luxury Eau de Toilette range, Ma’Ndlovu for women and BabaNdlovu for men, has been designed for both the local and export markets.
Fordoun also make use of Elemis an exclusive up market international beauty treatment range. Which we feel works well with the Ndlovu range.
Fordoun won the Top Destination Spa at the 2006 Professional Beauty Spa Awards. This is a great credit to us and a tribute to all those guests who have stayed with us and spoken so favorably about us. This is a national award, and we were up against some fantastic Spa’s. According to the brochure at the Professional Beauty Awards dinner, “The winners reflect true excellence and are worth admiring, because it’s not only about the spa or salon experience, but about ensuring that staff issues are in place, education plans are up to date and that a solid marketing campaign is used. Judges make sure that client-service is high priority and that the treatment menu offers enough of a variety. The entrants were judged by individuals of standing in the industry and the final decision was made by industry experts who add their particular expertise to the judging criteria.”
Accommodation
The hotel comprises seventeen luxurious, individually appointed double suites with private verandas, underfloor heating and dream bathrooms, each with bath and shower, and a dressing area. Each room has its own television, and tea/coffee-making facilities. There is also a double suite with wheelchair access and specially adapted bathroom. Despite its luxurious atmosphere, and emphasis on quality, Fordoun’s rates are surprisingly competitive in relation to similar hydros elsewhere.
African Traditional Healer Dr Elliot Ndlovu, Inyanga (medicinal healer) and Sangoma (spiritual healer) is our inspiration and gives to us and our guests the wisdom and healing powers of Africa. In Elliot's garden we have over 120 different species of healing plants. We also have two African therapy rooms and Elliot's consulting room. All built and designed in Zulu style.
These photographs are taken at his place, 50 metres outside the Spa, called KwaNdlovu (Place of Ndlovu). This is in actual fact a part of our Spa but is where we do specific treatments using traditional extracts from Zulu healing plants. There are two therapy rooms at KwaNdlovu. Elliot has his consulting room in the centre. The area is surrounded by a garden of over 120 varieties of traditional healing plants
Elliot is both a Sangoma (Spiritual Healer) and Inyanga (Medicinal Healer). He consults with many of our guests. He is a Director of our company and plays a major role at Fordoun.
Fordoun is located in the rolling grasslands of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, where the air is crystal-clear and smog and traffic are echoes of another lifestyle. Guests can enjoy gentle walks around the grounds, visit the herb garden of Dr Ndlovu, or ride on mountain bikes along designated routes through the Fordoun estate. Fly-fishing is available on three still waters on Fordoun, or, in season, in the pristine waters of the nearby Bushman’s or Mooi River. Golf is available at the magnificent Bosch Hoek course or the new Gowrie course which are both a few minutes away.
